Hello Rach’s lovely readers! My name is Gentri and I blog over at Gentri Lee. I’m super excited to be here today. I’m going to share with you one of my favorite Christmas recipes. I grew up on these Sugar Cookies and they are fantastic!
First, the recipe:
1 cup Shortening
1 1/2 cup Sugar
3/4 cup Sour Cream (that’s an important one!)
2 tsp Vanilla
2 Eggs
4 cup Flour
1 tsp Soda
1 tsp Baking Powder
3/4 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Nutmeg (the other important one)
Mix ingredients together, then chill for 1 hr. Don’t skip that step. It’ll make the dough work so much better. Once it’s chilled, lay out a space on your counter and dust with flour. Then cover your rolling pin in flour and roll the dough to be 1/4 in. thick. Then cut out all the fun shapes you want!
Next, place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 450 for 5 minutes. YUP, 5 minutes! Do not go longer, if anything go shorter. You want them to be white when they come out. Not golden.
Now for the fun part! The frosting! For my frosting I use Powdered Sugar, Butter, Milk, Vanilla, and a dash of Almond Extract. The keys are to whip the butter alone first and only add a tiny bit of milk at a time. When the mixer stops, you want the frosting to hold it’s shape. If it falls, then add more powdered sugar. Then have at your cookies!
