My daughters and I made these jack-o-lantern rice krispie treats on Sunday night. (It turns out, I make a lot of rice krispie treats! Who can resist these easy, quick, cheap, buttery treats? I think I’m on my way to making one for each holiday and occasion of the year)!
The faces aren’t quite perfect, but I never really strive for perfection when it comes to cooking with my kids. Mostly we just do it for the memories and learning.
Here’s a quick run-down on how to make them….
Follow a general rice krispie treat recipe. Only I always add a little more butter….
When the marshmallows are melting, add orange food coloring. You could also throw in a pinch of pumpkin pie spice!
Butter your hands really well, and start rolling into balls!
Make an indention and push a tootsie roll into the top.
Whip up some frosting (I used about 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1-2 TB heavy cream, eyeball the consistency). Divide and add green and black food coloring.
Pipe your decorations, using tips and bags or by cutting a small hole in the corner of a ziploc bag.
Happy Halloween!
They’re also cute just as a pumpkin.
