We all know tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, but for some people there is much more to the day than green, luck, and Irish heritage. Tomorrow is “The Match.” If you recognize the term “match day,” you may have been through it or know someone who has. It’s the big day when all the medical students across the U.S. find out if they’ve been accepted and where they will be going for the next 3-7 years of their medical training, called residency. Monday they find out if, and Thursday they find out where. You rank all the interviews you had, and you are elated if you end up matching. A few will not match, meaning they will have to scramble to land a spot that wasn’t even on their list and may not be the specialty they chose. They may have to go through the process all over again next year. It’s a grueling, scary process that will test all your hard work, patience, and faith. Needless to say, it is a big day. We have some good friends who just found out they did indeed match!!! (They find out where tomorrow). I am so happy for my friend, and wish her all the best. I cried with excitement for her and her husband when she texted me the big news.
I made this cake for my friend to celebrate the news. I have to tell you, the Perfectly Chocolate Cake recipe on the back of my Hershey’s cocoa is one of my go-to recipes. I love the cake and especially the frosting. Here’s the recipe.
